We’re excited to continue developing more permanently affordable homes on San Juan Island. While affordable homeownership remains at the heart of our mission, we’re also expanding our efforts to include affordable rental options for islanders, starting with the Lee’s Landing project. Lee's Landing

The proposed project, known as Lee’s Landing in honor of Lee Sturdivant [link to this story], involves the construction of a new affordable housing community on a county-owned site on the corner of Argyle & Malcolm in the Town of Friday Harbor, Washington. The site was specifically preserved by San Juan County for affordable housing and conveyed to the San Juan Community Home Trust (SJCHT) as the development partner through a 99-year ground lease. Public funding from the State of Washington Housing Trust Fund, the San Juan County Home Fund and a community-wide capital campaign will ensure long-term affordability for every home.

This community is being designed to serve the full spectrum of San Juan Island's affordable housing needs, from 30% to 115% of the Area Median Income, The buildings will including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom homes and will be visually consistent with the architecture of this Historic District of the Town of Friday Harbor.

Land use permit applications have been submitted in June 2026 and groundbreaking is anticipated for the Spring of 2027 with completion in the summer of 2028. See the floorplans HERE.

Sunrise III Project

8-12 homes

The Sun Rise III neighborhood will be situated between Sun Rise I and Sun Rise II on Grover Street. In 2023, the Home Trust selected an architect and is planning to build 8-12 homes on this plot of land to expand our Sun Rise community.

McDonald Project

Single Family Home

A gift of David and Patricia Giuliani, the Home Trust’s McDonald St. lot will become a single family home. We have already selected an architect and plan to begin fundraising and construction in 2024.

Lower 5 Acres

The Home Trust’s Lower 5 consists of 5 acres of undeveloped land, on Turn Point Rd., near Jensen’s Shipyard. The Home Trust plans to develop a community of mixed-income homes, expanding our permanently affordable housing portfolio substantially.
