Moving Forward Together
Welcome to those who are new to the Home Trust, and thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way.
We’re excited to share meaningful progress, including a stronger relationship with the Town of Friday Harbor and forward movement on the HolliWalk and Argyle projects.
We also invite you to join us for two upcoming events:
The Town Council public hearing on April 2 and a special gathering at the Roche Harbor Pavilion on May 1.
Of this Land speaks to the heart of our mission. As a Community Land Trust, we steward the land to keep our homes forever affordable. It is also the name of the Kwakiutl carving that will be the centerpiece of our May fundraising event.
“Of This Land” is a Yellow Cedar carving (58” × 23”) created by renowned Kwakiutl artist Stanley Hunt.
Thirty-one supporters have already purchased 68 raffle tickets at $100 each for the chance to take home this extraordinary piece of art.
Thank you for being part of this special community!
Argyle Update
With 40 affordable homes in ten buildings, Argyle represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for affordable housing in Friday Harbor.
San Juan County has provided the land and has also committed $2 million toward construction. The Town of Friday Harbor, San Juan County, and the Home Trust have signed a Development Agreement outlining the approval process for the project.
The San Juan Island Community Foundation is leading the capital campaign, which has already raised funds for pre-construction.
On April 16, the Town Council will review our site plan and provide feedback so we can submit our land-use permit application in late April and move toward construction in 2027.
HolliWalk Update
After reaching agreement with the Town on a path toward final approvals, we have completed our application for a Planned Residential Development (PRD) designation.
The Planning Commission held a public hearing on March 12 and recommended adoption of the PRD. The Town Council will hold its required hearing on April 2.
Following this process, we expect final approval in April and the beginning of home sales soon afterward.
In other exciting news, installation of solar panels on all eight homes is underway. With funding from the State of Washington and support from 27 community donors, these already high-performing homes will now generate clean energy and reduce electricity costs for homeowners.
Eight local homebuyers will soon achieve their dream of homeownership at HolliWalk.
Executive Director Search
The Home Trust has retained Glick Davis & Associates to conduct a search for our next Executive Director. Candidate screening is underway, and first-round interviews will be held in early April. Please share this opportunity with anyone who may be interested.
